ANTIQUE Victorian Hand Carved Bone Stag Deer Tree Pictorial Landscape Gold Tone Gilt Metal Pinchbeck Brooch C-Clasp

Circa 1850s, Victorian Era.
Beautiful and intricate hand-carved brooch made from what appears to be bone.
The center features a stag lying down amongst trees and foliage, a theme common to the Victorians.
Carving is encased in an oval gilt pinchbeck brooch and is behind a thick beveled glass frame.

Pinchbeck is a type of metal alloy that resembles gold, and was created in the 18th century by English watchmaker, Christopher Pinchbeck. Composed of copper and zinc, it was designed as an affordable alternative to gold, commonly used in jewelry and timepieces.

Brooch measures approximately 2 inches long by 1.8 inches wide.
Back of brooch is affixed with a pin and c-clasp, also indicative of the Victorian era.

In good condition for its age. Some of the metal adornments on the brooch appear to be missing; see left side compared to right side, and top compared to bottom. Please see all photos.
