A sentimental miniature painting depicts a man with an obelisk tombstone decorated with an urn and funerary drapes, mourning imagery common to the 19th Century. Obelisks were popular graveyard motifs during this era; they represent heaven and eternal life. The melancholy man wears a long coat, waistcoat, and breeches. This sepia-tone painting is preserved under crystal in a vintage 14k gold bezel. This somber pendant hangs on a 14k gold faceted cable chain.
