This handmade necklace features an Ethiopan hydrophane opal set in sterling and fine silver with a hand-stamped star border. It hangs from an 18" sterling silver snake chain.
Hydrophane opals are porous and absorb water. When immersed in water for long periods of time, their color changes to a dark gray. However, once they are removed from the water, their color magically returns as they dry. This phenomenon is interesting and unique, but please don't try it with this piece! Instead, you can watch a video of it .
