The riotous visage of this Green Man pendant is composed of verdant leaves and curling tendrils. He stares at you with his wild eyes as he opens his mouth wide to reveal a sparkling little diamond. This pendant is a conversion jewel made from an antique stick pin. The piece is stationary, suspended from a modern recycled 14k gold cable chain. Circa 1900.
The Green Man is a figure from traditional European folk culture. He is associated with the English Green Man, a "wild man" role in pageants from the mid-sixteenth century, and the Foliate Head, an image of a face surrounded by or disgorging leaves that originated in the Middle Ages.
Details.....The chain is 18" long, and the pendant measures 15.8mm by 12.7mm. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
